Native Studies is the setting right of names, the righting of names as much as the writing of names. In any study that deserves to be called Native Studies, there will be no un-named, so-called Native informants. There will be no un-named elders. The words of elders and other sources of information are attributed, so that the names if these knowledgeable people can take their place besides the names if the non-Native authorities so carefully cited in scholarly practice. Place names will also be righted, so that the inscriptions on the land developed over centuries by First Nations may once again be read, the stories once again told. The names of the First Nations themselves — Inuit instead of Eskimo, Gwi’chin instead of Loucheaux, Innu instead of Montagnais — will be returned by them, to them.

You can order the DVD here.
MTV: "Was Krist playing the songs the way you pictured them being played? What was your first reaction to him playing?"
Kurt Cobain: "He basically played the same notes that were on the tape already. We basically just played the songs that were on the Fecal Matter tape. MTV: "What was the first thing you did together?"
Cobain: "Oh, the first song that we wrote together?"
Cobain: "Oh God, I don’t know. Um…"

THE MAYA ARE STILL LIVING.
THE AZTECA ARE STILL LIVING.
MOST ARE STILL ALIVE TODAY AND ARE FIGHTING TO RETAIN THEIR RIGHTS TO THEIR SACRED SITES, RITUALS, AND PRACTICES BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK THEIR CULTURES ARE DEAD WHEN THEY’RE NOT.

Blood for Oil? Indigenous Leader Murdered in Colombia
Masked gunmen murdered Awa official Juan Alvaro Nastacuas Pai on November 29, shooting him twice in the head, killing him instantly. Pai was the governor of the Inda Guacaray reserve in southwestern Colombia. Awa leaders and supporters say that Pai’s murder is not an isolated event and is another example of official indifference to a community facing severe pollution and in danger of extinction.
